February 2013 horoscope - Gemini

I follow the sidereal calendar; this is the monthly solar horoscope for birthdays from 16th June to 15th July or Gemini Ascendants and Moons

By Louise Gilbert
Gemini, for the first week or so of February, you will be finishing up a cycle where your main focus is still on committed relationships. The past couple of months would have been a time for you when you were out and about more, meeting new people in a quest to meet someone special or you would have worked hard on restructuring existing relationships, making decisions on their future – financial - progress and redefining some barriers. This still carries on for the first half of February when your mind revolves around partnerships with all its responsibilities and commitments. Geminis are in a cycle when greater freedom to choose is very important. So although the willingness to make constructive change is there, under no circumstances should this person want to limit and control your movements and limit your freedom. Perhaps you are involved in a long-distance partnership and discussions are now focussed on how to maintain a solid foundation for this relationship and make the best of your joint resources you have.

The new Moon on 10th February in Capricorn gives you the chance to start afresh when it comes to joint resources, loan applications, tax refunds and so forth. In Indian astrology, this new Moon which falls into in the nakshatra (one of the 27 or 28 lunar mansions in the Indian horoscope) of Uttara Ashadha. This basically translates as ‘later victory’ and is ruled by the Sun. But Uttara Ashadha is also competitive and pushes us to attain great achievements.  So, on the one hand, this new Moon is a chance to initiate a new path or a new process that has to do with other people’s resources, it could also have something to do with your employment benefits, but on the other hand, it can also be a time of liberation from fears. Although Saturn is in a position that puts a few obstacles in your way in these areas, Jupiter is in a supportive trine and should offer some opportunities and alternatives to help you out.

In February, we have an important configuration building up called The Yod or The Finger of God. This will be exact in March 2013 and will affect us all but can already be felt this month. This Yod configuration has two planets, Pluto and Saturn, in a sextile – which means they are in harmony and the focal planet, Jupiter, is in a quincunx. This means that Pluto and Saturn, the other two planets in the Yod, are completely incompatible, sharing neither gender (masculine/assertive or feminine/receptive), element (fire, water, air, or earth), or modality (cardinal, fixed, or mutable). This Yod shines its light across your solar 5th, 7th and 12th houses, activating either a powerful conduit of energy, or a deeply-felt block, in the direction of the quincunxed planet – which is Jupiter in your house of behind the scenes activities and letting go. The Yod is said to have the potential to trigger major events in someone’s life and if you are facing challenges in these areas, the best way to achieve a positive result is through adaptation and at least considering new paths. It may take great initiative and fortitude to overcome the limitations created by the Yod, but great rewards and gains can be the result.

After mid-month, the mood shifts and you start opening up a little bit more. It is not often that so many planets gather in one sign but Mars, Mercury, the Sun and towards the end of the month also Venus gather in the sign of Aquarius, your solar 9th house of long-distance travel, new experiences and spirituality. The urge to get away, see something new and meet people from all over the world might quite suddenly become more evident. You may also meet someone who acts as a mentor to you and helps you looks at your beliefs or even your entire life from a fresh perspective. If you do manage to get away, then maybe that trip allows you to regroup your outlook on life. This also applies to further education - anything that helps broadens your mind and helps you learn a new skill. With a solar 9th house ruled by Aquarius, Geminis tend to belief in individualism and humanity rather than spirituality and religion, this month, however, you might question some of your long-held beliefs and attitudes due to the people you’ll meet.

As the month goes on, things are then slowing down a little as two planets are going retrograde. Saturn starts moving backwards from 18th February until 8th July 2013, and Mercury goes retrograde from 24th February until 18th March 2013. Saturn currently sits in your 5th house of romance, fun, creativity and children, putting a damper on your spontaneity, your sense of fun and how you view romance. Romance and having fun are deadly serious business for you these days and you might find it more difficult to be playful and go with the flow. You want the way you engage in romantic relationships and affairs to be more structured and even predictable. This is hard work so it’s important you are aware of this pattern, so try and acknowledge that you don't always need a good reason to have a bit of fun. In retrograde motion, Saturn helps you review these patterns and your approach to relationships and enjoyment. You’ve already learnt some lessons over the past months or even year but now, you can start to apply what you’ve learnt. Again, this is a slow learning process and you may have to try a number of times before you get it right.

Mercury in retrograde motion in your solar 9th house which means that you need to take extra care when it comes to travel plans, submitting essays, publishing deals or legal work. Make sure you read the small print and watch out for delays and re-adjustments in these areas until mid-March.
